Sentinel Literary Quarterly Poetry Competition

(July 2012)

Competition Details


Poems may be on any subject or style and MUST NOT have been previously published, or posted on a website or blog. Poems posted on members-only writing groups for workshop purposes as part of the creative process are not deemed to have been previously published. Poems must also not be under consideration for publication or accepted for publication elsewhere, and may not be simultaneously entered into another competition.


Length: Maximum 50 lines per poem
 

Entry Fees: £3.00/1 poem, £6.00/2 poems, £9.00/3 poems, £11.00/4 poems, £12.00/5 poems, £16.00/7 poems, and £22.00/10 poems. (You may enter as many poems as you wish – with the applicable fees.
 

Prizes: First: £150.00 ($238.00), Second: £75.00 ($119.00), Third: £50.00 ($79.00), Highly Commended: £10 x 3. ($16.00 x 3) Note: Dollar equivalents are based on exchange rate on 7-april-2012.

 

Results due: 31st July, 2012 announced in Sentinel Literary Quarterly magazine online at: http://sentinelquarterly.com/competitions/results.htm


First Publication: The three winning poems, three highly commended poems, plus nine other poems (15 poems in total) will receive first publication in Sentinel Champions magazine in print and eBook in February 2013. The authors will each receive a free contributor's copy.

 

Anniversary Year Giveaway: As part of the celebration to mark 10 years of Sentinel Poetry Movement, 1 entrant to this quarter's poetry competition will receive a year's free subscription to Sentinel Champions magazine.

About the judge

Will Daunt is the author of five poetry books including Distant Close, The Good is Abroad, Running out of England, and Powerless - a winner in the 2010 Indigo Dreams collection competition. He has  reviewed for Envoi and New Hope International. Daunt lives in Ormskirk, Lancashire.

International/Online entrants may enter by e-mail and pay entry fees securely by Paypal. To enter by this method please follow these steps:

  1. Select the option that matches your entry preference from the paypal drop-down button below and make the applicable payment. After making your payment, you will be given a Transaction ID or Receipt Number by Paypal. Make a note of the Transaction ID.

  2. Submit your poems and a cover note with your Name, E-mail Address, Postal Address, Telephone Number and Titles of your poems to: competitions@sentinelpoetry.org.uk as a Word or rtf attachment. In the subject line, type SLQ POETRY JULY 2012 Followed by your Transaction ID. You will receive an acknowledgement of receipt of poems within 48 hours.

  3. Your name or any personally identifying marks may not appear on any of your poetry pages.

  4. If you are entering more than 1 poem, please start every poem on a new page.

  5. IMPORTANT: If your payment name is different from your name or pen name, or if somebody is paying for your entry, clearly indicate this in your cover note.

  6. SKY DRIVE: Please avoid using Sky Drive to submit your work unless you know what you are doing. We have so many people submitting multiple files by Sky Drive that all link to single items.
